Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Notepad Free at notepadfree.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service. These terms apply to all visitors and users, including those who only browse the site and those who use the notepad tools.
Description of the Service
Notepad Free is a free online notepad that lets you write, save, import, export, share and manage notes in your web browser. The Service supports six note types: plain text, rich text, Markdown, task lists, spreadsheets and whiteboard drawings. Notes are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device and are not stored on or transmitted to our servers, except where explicitly described in these terms.
Free to use; advertising
The Service is provided free of charge with no registration required. We support the Service through advertising provided by Google AdSense and similar partners. By using the Service you acknowledge that advertisements may appear on pages. We have no control over the content of third-party advertisements, and the appearance of an advertisement does not constitute an endorsement of the advertised product or service.
Your content and ownership
You retain full ownership of the notes you create. Because notes are stored only in your browser, we make no claim over them. When you use the Share feature, your note is encoded into a link generated entirely in your browser — we do not store that content on our servers. You are solely responsible for the content you create, store and share using the Service.
Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of others or restrict their use of the Service. You must not use the Service to create, store or share content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, or that infringes intellectual property rights. You must not attempt to disrupt, damage or gain unauthorised access to the Service, its servers or any related systems.
Sharing and links
When you generate a share link, the note content is encoded into the URL. Anyone with the link can view the note. If you add a password, the note is encrypted before encoding and can only be read by someone who knows the password. You are solely responsible for deciding what you share and with whom. Do not share links containing sensitive personal information, credentials or confidential data unless you have appropriate safeguards in place.
Data loss and backups
Your notes are stored in your browser's local storage. They may be lost if you clear browser data, switch browsers, switch devices or if the browser's storage limits are reached. We strongly recommend downloading copies of any important notes. The Service provides export options including plain text, Word, CSV, PDF, PNG and encrypted .npf files for this purpose. We are not responsible for any loss of notes resulting from browser data being cleared or storage limits being reached.
Intellectual property
The Notepad Free name, brand, design, code and all underlying software are the property of Notepad Free and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Service for note-taking. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, sublicence or create derivative works based on the Service or its code without prior written permission.
Third-party services
The Service uses third-party infrastructure and advertising services, including Cloudflare (hosting and security) and Google AdSense (advertising). Your use of these embedded services is also subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices, terms or availability of third-party services.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure or free of harmful components. Your use of the Service is entirely at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Notepad Free and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including any loss of notes or data. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed ten US dollars (US$10). Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain types of damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you in full.
Changes to the Service and terms
We reserve the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the Service at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these Terms of Use from time to time. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. We recommend reviewing this page periodically.
