Privacy Policy

Overview

Notepad Free is a free online notepad built around a simple privacy principle: what you write is yours. Your notes are stored only in your browser using local storage — they are never sent to or kept on our servers. We do not require accounts, we do not collect your notes and we cannot read what you write. This policy explains what data we do and do not collect, how we use it and what your rights are.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect the content of your notes. We do not require you to create an account, provide an email address or submit any personal information to use Notepad Free. Because notes live only in your browser, we have no access to them at any point — not when you write them, not when you save them and not when you export or share them. There is no database on our side that holds your writing.

Browser local storage

Your notes are saved in your browser's local storage — a sandboxed, device-specific area managed by your browser. Notes never leave your device unless you choose to share or export them. If you clear your browser history or site data, switch to a different browser, use a private or incognito window, or switch devices, those notes are gone. We cannot recover them because we never had access to them.

Sharing notes

When you use the Share feature, your note's title and content are encoded into a URL entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers to create the link. When the recipient opens the link, their browser decodes the content. If you add a password, the note is encrypted with AES-GCM in your browser before being encoded, so the URL itself is unreadable without the password. We never see the unencrypted content of a password-protected shared note.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to keep the site functioning and to remember your preferences (such as your chosen theme). We do not use cookies to track your activity across other websites. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Our cookie notice gives you the option to accept all cookies or limit them to strictly necessary ones.

Advertising

Notepad Free is supported by advertising provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show advertisements based on your browsing. This is governed by Google's own privacy policies. You can opt out of interest-based advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Declining advertising cookies does not affect your ability to use the notepad — it is free regardless of your cookie choice.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics tools to understand, in aggregate, how many people visit the site and which pages they view. These analytics never include the content of your notes and are limited to anonymised, aggregate data. No individual visitor is identified, tracked across sessions or linked to personal information.

Hosting and infrastructure

The site is hosted on Cloudflare's global infrastructure. Cloudflare may process basic request metadata — such as your IP address and request headers — as part of providing DNS, content delivery and security services. This is governed by Cloudflare's own privacy policy. We do not share your notes or any note-related data with Cloudflare or any other third party.

Feedback messages

If you send a message through the on-page feedback widget, the message text, the type of feedback (bug, idea or other), the date and the page URL are stored in our database. We use this data only to read your feedback and improve the service. Feedback messages are not shared with third parties. If you would like a message deleted, contact us by email.

Children's privacy

Notepad Free does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because we do not collect personal information from any user to use the core service, no such data is stored. If you believe a child has submitted personal data through our feedback form, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your rights

Because we do not collect your personal data or the content of your notes, there is generally nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. If you are in a jurisdiction covered by GDPR, CCPA or similar laws and believe we hold personal data about you (for example, a feedback message), you have the right to request access, correction or deletion. Contact us by email and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Notepad Free after a change means you accept the updated policy. Questions? Contact us by email — a real person will read your message and reply.
