Our mission
We want the fastest possible path between having a thought and writing it down. No sign-up forms, no onboarding, no clutter — just an online notepad that opens and works. Notepad Free exists so anyone, anywhere, can take notes for free in their own language. The moment you open the site, the editor is ready. That is by design.
How it started
Notepad Free was born from a simple frustration: most note apps ask you to create an account before you can write a single word. You pick a plan, choose a username, verify an email, set a profile — and by the time you are done, the thought that drove you there has vanished. We built the opposite: a free notepad that opens instantly, keeps every note in your browser and never asks who you are.
Privacy by design
Your notes are your business. This is not just a slogan — it is how the technology works. Notes are saved in your browser using local storage, on your own device, and they stay there. Our servers never receive your notes, never store them and cannot read them. If you lock a note with a password, the note is encrypted in your browser before it is saved — only you can unlock it. We made this choice deliberately: keeping data on your device means there is nothing for us to misuse and no breach risk on our side.
Six ways to write
A notepad that only does plain text misses half the ways people actually think on paper. Notepad Free offers six note types: plain text for speed, rich text for structure, Markdown for keyboard-first formatting, task lists for to-dos, a spreadsheet for quick data tables, and a whiteboard for sketches and diagrams. Every type saves automatically, works offline once the page has loaded and exports to common formats like text, Word, PDF, CSV and PNG.

Taking notes should feel natural, and that means working in your own language. Notepad Free is available in 28 languages — from English, Spanish and Portuguese to Japanese, Arabic and Hindi. Every label, tooltip and message is localised so the tool feels at home wherever you use it. URLs follow the language-code pattern with full hreflang support, so search engines serve the right version to the right audience automatically.

We keep the service running through simple, non-intrusive advertising — never by selling your data, because we do not have it. Thoughtful features
We add features carefully. Password protection uses AES-GCM encryption in the browser, so a locked note is genuinely secure — not security theatre. The share feature encodes the note directly into the URL, so there is no server-side storage and no link that expires on our schedule. When you add a password to a share, the note is encrypted before encoding, so the link itself is unreadable without the password. Downloads come in multiple formats because you should always be able to leave with your work.
